RHS Girls Ultimate
WELCOME TO RHS GIRLS ULTIMATE
This is the official website for the Roosevelt High School Girls Ultimate team in Seattle, Washington. The Girls Ultimate program at RHS is a strong, established club team that thrives thanks to our empahsis on highly skilled, team oriented, and competitive play in the spirit of the game. In the 2019 season, the Varsity team won the quadruple crown of high school ultimate: the SPS league, the Seattle Invite, the Washington State Championship, and the High School National Invitational. The team is run by parents and students who volunteer their time to help support the team.
If you are looking for the RHS Boys Ultimate team, their site can be found here.
SUMMER '21 UPDATES
6/5/21 update: DiscNW has organized a competitive summer league for high school teams from June 21-Aug. 14, 2021. RHS students from five grades, rising 9th-graders through just-graduated seniors, are eligible. Registration for these teams has now closed and practices begin the week of 6/21. More info including schedules, coaches, and financial aid can be found on our Summer 2021 Leagues page.
We hope and expect our regular spring girls' season to return in March, 2022. If you'd like, you may add your name to our contact list and we'll be in touch with updates on that as the next season approaches. We're looking forward to great Ultimate seasons for our players next year!
We're grateful for sponsorship by local coffee company, Caffe Ladro, who has operated neighborhood cafes, bakeries, and roasteries in the Seattle area since 1994. Their cafe on the corner of Northeast 65th St. and Brooklyn Ave. NE, one block in front of RHS, is a welcoming place to take a break. Please help us thank them by supporting all of their locations!
TRYOUTS & PLACEMENTS
Summer, '21 Updates: Students from five grades, rising 9th-graders through just-graduated seniors, are eligible for this summer season, and DNW has capped teams at 20 players per coach. We are trying very hard to accommodate everyone who wants to play but we may unfortunately have more players than we have space for. If that's the case, players will be offered spots based on ability, athleticism, and spirit of the game and we sincerely apologize in advance if we don't have a spot for everyone.
For a normal spring season, tryouts are held over 2-3 days in mid-February with assignments to Varsity and JV teams made immediately thereafter. The future success of our program relies on a strong pipeline of players, so athletes of all ages and abilities are encouraged to try out as we offer both a Varsity team and a no-cut JV team (numbers permitting), both coached by experienced adult coaches. Tryouts for the Spring, 2022 season will likely be announced the prior December or January. Please check back here often for updates, or get on our email list to receive email updates using this link--> https://RHSGirlsUltiRegForm
Prior to tryouts, players will need to complete a Google Docs registration form whose link will be posted here when the time comes. Once team placements are announced, players have a week to submit their paperwork and payment (see below), or make other financial arrangements. Practices begin immediately following tryouts, with dates, times, and locations posted on the calendar.
We field a Varsity and a Junior Varsity team. Varsity is by assignment only while JV is traditionally no-cut (numbers permitting).
Note that RHS also has a co-ed club team that plays in the DiscNW Mixed League during the winter season. Tryouts and registration for the spring-season girls' teams are independent from mixed teams.
COACHING AND TEAM CAPTAINS
We're incredibly lucky to have access to high quality, professional Ultimate players in this area and our girls' teams have benefitted from excellent coaching by a consistent group of coaches for several years running. Coaches for 2022 will be announced once the season is confirmed.
Captains are chosen by players and coaches based on experience, leadership, and spirit of the game. The 2021 Season Varsity Team captains are Juniors Ellie B. and Lucy T., and Senior Shanti C.

PRACTICES AND GAMES
Practices for Varsity and JV are usually 1-1/2 to 2 hours, in the after-school or early evening hours, 2-4 times per week. Practices are mostly at local sports fields in NE Seattle, not generally at RHS. Times and locations are only as consistent as Seattle Parks & Rec. field scheduling allows, but most fall in the 4-7p range except on early-release Wednesdays when they're right after school. Be sure to double check the calendar here on the website to verify fields, dates, and times as they change week-to-week. The teams usually work out carpools with older players driving, but parent assistance is also welcome as transportation is not provided.
Games usually start in mid-March and take place after school during the week. Game days and locations vary, and may be at the home fields of opposing teams. Again, team carpools usually get players to games, but parent assistance is welcome.
REGISTRATION, WAIVERS, FEES, and SCHOLARSHIPS
After tryouts are completed and team assignments are announced, players will need to register with both DiscNW (www.discnw.org) and USA Ultimate (https://www.usaultimate.org/memberships/) and sign waivers. If you already have accounts, please just check that your information is up to date. No need to set up a new account. You will still need to sign waivers.
Ultimate Frisbee does not require the same sports physical form signed by the player's doctor as required by SPS-sponsored sports. However, Ultimate is physically demanding and we strongly encourage every player to have an appropriate check-up by your doctor before trying out. Post tryouts, players will be asked to fill out an emergency contact form that coaches will keep on file for the season.
Players will be assessed a Participation Fee, which in 2020 would have been $350 for Varsity and $150 for Junior Varsity. Participation fees cover the DiscNW league fee, field rentals, equipment, coaches, and local tournament costs. Payments must be received within a week after team announcements for your student to participate. No fee will be due if your student is not placed on a team following tryouts. Players will also need to order and pay for a uniform at the start of the season.
Players are also responsible for paying for travel tournament expenses. In prior years, the team has sold coffee to raise money to defray the cost of the tournament fees, hotel, van rental, and food at the tournament. Families have paid separately for the airline tickets. We'll continue to organize team fundraising opportunities in order to keep away-tournaments affordable for all players.
Scholarships are available. Please contact email@example.com with questions about financial aid. All inquiries will be confidential. We don't want money standing in the way of a student playing Ultimate.
