RHS Girls Ultimate

WELCOME TO RHS GIRLS ULTIMATE

This is the official website for the Roosevelt High School Girls Ultimate Frisbee team in Seattle, Washington.  The Girls Ultimate program at RHS is a strong, established club team that thrives thanks to our emphasis on highly skilled, team oriented, and competitive play in the spirit of the game.

This program offers a high level of skill, sportsmanship, and fun that has resulted in SPS league titles, Seattle Invite titles, WA State Championships, and even the High School National Invitational championship in 2019 as the best HS Girls' team in the country, followed by a 3rd place finish in 2022 and 2nd place in 2023.

The future success of our program relies on a strong pipeline of players, so we welcome athletes of all ages and abilitiesWe offer both Varsity and JV teams, coached by experienced adult coaches.  Please note that tryouts, team placement, and registration for the spring-season girls' teams are independent from the winter mixed teams and the fall club league.

The team is run by parents and students who volunteer their time to help support the team.  Please get in touch if you can help out!

2023 Spring HS Gx Seattle Invite Champs!

HIGH SCHOOL NATIONALS INVITE (HSNI)

2023 Season Re-Cap:  The Spring 2023 Girls Varsity team finished in 2nd place at the High School National Invite 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  The team played their hearts out and we couldn't be more proud.  Special thanks to all our parents and volunteers who made the trip happen, our generous donors who kept the trip affordable for our players, and our hosts for organizing.  Congrats to eventual champions, South Eugene.  We can't wait to see you all at HSNI in 2024!

2022 Season Re-Cap:  We were incredibly honored to receive a return bid to the High School National Invite 2022, hosted by Ultiworld and CUT, held in Richmond, VA.  Returning as the #2 ranked team in the country to defend our 2019 Championship, RHS Girls rolled through the group play and early playoffs, only losing in an incredibly tight, and weather-delayed, semifinal game.

SPRING 2022 - SPS League and STATE CHAMPIONS!

Congrats on overcoming some amazing competition in the first spring girls' season since 2019.  Thank you coaches, way to go players, and congrats to our Seniors!  Roosevelt Girls Ulti is the 2022 WA State Champion after an epic, 110+ minute win.

TEAMS (Spring & Fall Leagues)

Spring SeasonWe field a Varsity and a Junior Varsity team in the competitive spring season.  Varsity is by assignment only while JV is traditionally no-cut (numbers permitting).  Both are coached by experienced, adult coaches.

Fall Season:  In the Fall, DiscNW also hosts a casual off-season league for girls' teams.  RHS participated in this casual Fall league for the first time in 2021 and then again in 2022 and fielded a single team, as many players had conflicts  with other sports.

Winter Mixed Season:  RHS also has Varsity & JV Mixed (co-ed) teams that play in the DiscNW Mixed League during the winter season, with tryouts typically happening in mid-November and games running Dec. thru Feb.  Mixed teams offer only half as many spots for each gender so many who play Varsity on single-gender teams may be assigned to JV on a mixed team.

Tryouts and registration for the fall and spring-season girls' teams are independent from mixed teams, and from each other.

RHS Girls Varsity at Seattle Invite - May, '22

EXAMPLE SEASON (Spring League)

PRACTICES AND GAMES (Spring League)

Practices for Varsity and JV are normally held after school or evenings 2-4 times per week, lasting 1-1/2 to 2 hours.   Practice locations are mostly at local sports fields in NE Seattle, and generally not at RHS.  Times and locations are only as consistent as Seattle Parks & Rec. field scheduling allows.

Games usually start in mid-March.  Game days, times and locations vary.

Check the team calendar to verify fields, dates, and times as they change week-to-week.   You can also refer to DiscNW  for game scheduling details.

ACCOLADES

FEES, PAYMENTS, and SCHOLARSHIPS

DiscNW Registration Fees:  Registration fees on a sliding scale are paid by players/families directly to DiscNW.

Team FeesRHS Girls Ultimate charges Team Fees to cover the costs of hiring coaches, reserving fields, and equipment costs that generally range from $200-$400/player per season.  These fees, or other financial arrangements, are due within five days after team placement announcements following tryouts  in order to accept your player's spot.  No fee will be due if your student is not placed on a team following tryouts, or chooses not to play.

Team fees may be paid directly to RHS Girls Ultimate via PayPal at RHSgirlult@outlook.com.  (Please pay to friends and family so the team isn't charged a fee.)  If you would prefer to pay by check, or to inquire confidentially about financial aid, please email rhsgirlsultimate@gmail.com .

UniformsPlayers will also need to order and pay for a uniform at the start of the season.

Scholarships are available!  Please contact rhsgirlsultimate@gmail.com with questions about financial aid.  All inquiries will be confidential.  We don't want money standing in the way of a student playing Ultimate.

Tournament Expenses:  Players/families are responsible for paying for any travel expenses to tournaments, including airline tickets.   In prior years, the team has raised money to help defray the cost of tournament fees, hotel, van rental and food at the tournament.  Past fundraisers include the sale of coffee, bake sales, and organized fundraisers at  local restaurants.   We will continue to organize team fundraising opportunities in order to keep away-tournaments affordable for all players.

NOTEUltimate Frisbee does not require the same sports physical form signed by the player's doctor as required by SPS-sponsored sports.  However, Ultimate is physically demanding and we strongly encourage every player to have an appropriate check-up by your doctor before trying out.
